Vignette – in class – Dialogue and tone
3. At Work
Charas: Boka and Sarge
Sarge whistled as he watched the footage of the rabid beast
tear through one of his co-workers. “You know, he said he’d do it.” Sarge
chuckled as a woman attempted to kill the demon with a broom. “She was pretty
mad.”
“Yes. She was.” Boka’s voice was smooth as he rested his
head on his knuckles. His British accent more crisp and clear than ever before.
“Where on Meroka did Scotty even find this creature?”
“I don’t know.” Sarge shrugged as he sat down in the
computer chair. He leaned back as he spun the chair with his foot. “I wasn’t in
that meeting.”
Boka gave the man a long side glance.
“Woo! Look at another one go!” Sarge clapped his hands
together as he sat forward to watch the demon murder what looked like either a
gardener or a mail man.
Boka sighed through his nose. “It’s hard to find nice people
these days.”
“True.” Sarge nodded. “And looks like we lost a lot of them
the other day.”
Boka bit the inside of his lip as he zoomed in on the
creature. “Somebody’s getting a raise.”
“I still can’t believe Scotty caught this thing without
losing an appendage at least.” Sarge leaned back, his eyes glued to the
footage. “It’s a shame that those dopes at the labs lost it.”
“If I had the chance, I’d do it differently.” Boka glared at
the screen. He had designed that lab to inescapable. A demon running amuck and wrecking
the whole thing reflected poorly on him.
“Ice?” Sarge tapped his arm with a paper cup.
“What?” Boka looked down at the cup of ice.
“For your bruised ego.” Sarge gave a lopsided grin. “I hear
it helps keep the swelling down.”
